What is a ‘hard rev’? A ‘rev’ is to step on your accelerator (when idle / not moving / neutral gear) and to cause the engine to rev, you will see at your RPM meter, the needle increasing the more you rev.
So a ‘hard rev’ is when you cause the engine to rev high / high RPM.
Why is it good?
Overtime carbon deposits will start to build up in the internals of your engine from the combustion which will affect the overall performance of your engine. This is normal – think of it as cholesterol build up in your arteries.
So, a hard rev will cause the carbon deposits to be burned out or knocked off and blown out of your exhaust. Think of it as a good workout for your heart. =)
This is good especially for cars older than 1year.
Results:
- slight increase in engine performance
- slight increase in fuel efficiency (less consumption)
To hard rev, simply;
1. Start your engine, allow the engine to warm up for 5mins (temperature meter should be at middle)
2. Make sure gear/transmission is in neutral
3. Start pressing on the accelerator – you will hear the engine ‘revving’ and your rpm meter going up
4. Rev the engine till the RPM needle touches 6500rpm – then release the accelerator immediately (1 = 1000rpm)
**WARNING – do not over rev your engine – nothing more than 7000rpm
**For diesel engines, nothing more than 4000rpm
5. Rev the engine 3-4 times and that should be enough
6. When you start driving, you should feel a slight increase in engine response
